At times such as the one we are living now due to the Covid-19 pandemic, when many of us have had to close our doors and work remotely to continue to provide some level of service to those we have been entrusted to serve, managing can be much more challenging. Share Knowledge Consulting aims to provide a platform for managers and leaders to engage and support each other by sharing knowledge.
Nurture your relationship with your team: Find creative ways to continue to nurture the relationship you have with your team or if you don’t have a good relationship with your team, cease this moment to reset and start over.
Be responsive and proactive: If working remotely, ensure that your team has the support and resources they need to continue to work and feel productive. Establish clear protocols and policies to guide and protect your team while they work from home.
Use technology to stay connected: Find a balance between excessive checking-in on your team and not checking-in enough. Excessive checking may convey distrust for your team while not enough checking-in may give the impression that you don’t care.
Feelings are ok so show that you care: Start your phone or internet conference meetings by asking how your team and their loved-ones are doing. Acknowledge the challenges of working from home. Such validation can go a long way to helping staff feel supported through this tricky challenge of finding work/life balance under this very difficult time.
Be a resource to your team: Keep your team updated with relevant information without overwhelming them with too much information. Offer to support them with brainstorming innovative solutions to work related tasks if you can.
Support staff development: Encourage your staff (if appropriate) to explore online free training as part of their work and self-development. Staying current with work related knowledge and support your team to feel relevant at this time when so many of our staff are feeling like they are not making a difference. Reiterate that this may be a unique time when we can actually find opportunities for example to participate in webinar trainings.
Promote a culture of self-care and resilience building: Encourage your team to take time to care for themselves. Remind them to take breaks for lunch and stepping away from the computer or the phone.
Be positive: Convey messages of hope and collaboration with our team by articulating that you are all in this together and will come out on the other side together!
Take care of yourself: Be a role model and practice what you preach and find ways to re-charge your own batteries
